BMW will
introduce a hybrid called the ActiveHybrid X6. The emphasis
seems to be on performance, not what most people interested in
a hybrid are looking for. That is to say, a focus on reducing
emissions and increasing fuel economy don't seem to be a big
priority.
A car with over
400 horsepower does have any bragging rights about
responsibility, conserving precious resources, or concern for
the planet children will have to live in 50 years from now.
BMW ought to try
making smaller, lighter cars that need modest amounts of
power, and putting in a FULL HYBRID system, not a mild hybrid
system. Then they might have a car worth considering. With
BMW's obvious engineering talent, they could have made a truly
great hybrid, with excellent safety. With a very modest
increase in mileage, it seems like a waste of about 10 years
of planning.

EPA estimates for this vehicle are
18 MPG combined. That was the cut off for the Cash for
Clunkers program. |
BMW didn't seem
to get the memo; Americans are tired of excess and
in-your-face luxury. Pass. This manufacturer could have done
better, and you can do better than getting this car.
