Daihatsu has shown hybrid concept car verified as the world’s most efficient
four-seater. Called the UFE2 (for Ultra Fuel Economy), it incorporates cutting
edge design to take to the limit fuel efficiency. It has the lowest ever
recorded drag coefficient of 0.19 Cd. the body is made of aluminum and composite
instead of steel. The power train is a very small three-cylinder 660 cc (.66
liter) gasoline engine linked to a compact, lightweight generator and permanent
electric motor. A continually variable transmission (CVT) is used.
The result is an amazing 170 mpg-plus economy.
The car was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show and The Sunday Times Motor Show Live
(in the UK).
