If an electric
car appeals to you, but you are not the type of person who
wants to shell out over $30,000 for one, you may be in luck.
Genovation, a
new company in Rockville, MD has a novel idea: take a popular,
practical car m and modify it to be purely electric. In the
interest of cost, used cars would be utilized for the
modifications.
The idea has
some interesting strong points. The car body is something that
isn't really weird or really small. In this case, it's based
on the Ford Focus. Maintenance and body parts are readily
available, and shouldn't be expensive.
And while the
"Cash for Clunkers" program took polluting, gas burning,
vehicles off the road and had them crushed, Genovation's idea
would take polluting, gas burning, vehicles off the road, and
get use out of them, replacing them with non-polluting
electric cars. That's a pretty good idea.

The first model planned by Genovation, the G1
Genovation says
there first model will operate at a cost of four cents per
mile. And the target price for the vehicle is under $25,000.
This puts it within reach of a lot of families that are
unwilling or unable to spend the expected $40,000 for the
upcoming electric Chevy Volt. So there is potentially a pretty
big market for a car like the Genovation.
The company has
some other exciting ideas up there sleeves. You can learn more
