Ford has released a few details
about a prototype hybrid vehicle called the Meta One. It combines an electric
motor with a turbocharged V6 diesel engine. The electric motor is designed to
minimize nitrogen oxide emissions that are typical of diesel engines under hard
acceleration. Ford says the vehicle meets California's Partial Zero Emissions
Vehicle (PZEV) requirements.
The Meta One is based on the
Ford Freestyle. This reflects the trend toward a vehicle with the beefits of
both a minivan and a sport utility vehicle. The Meta One will be shown in
January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
