Here's a peek at the New York Institute
of Technology's house at the
2007 Solar Decathlon. In the spirit of open source, the team has made
the plans for their house
available on their web site. The team has named their
house "OPEN House".
These glass plates containing photovoltaic cells are a very attractive way
to integrate PV into a home.
Energy flow in the home is displayed on a computer screen.
These shades can be pulled down to reduce the sun's heat from building
up in the home, but occupants can still see out.
Three separate solar products can be seen here: conventional solar
photovoltaic panels covering the south facing roof, water
heating collectors at the top center of the roof, and the
three rows of panels which provide shade for the glass windows
and also generate electricity.
