Rockville, MD is just
outside Washington DC. It's just a short distance up route 355
(Rockville Pike), which turns into Wisconsin Avenue in DC. But with
the Metro rail system, it's very easy to take the Red Line into
DC. There are several stations that serve Rockville: Grosvenor, White
Flint, Twinbrook and the Rockville station.
Rockville has tons of
shopping. There are so many little stores along Rockville Pike,
just about everything imaginable. The business district goes for
several miles.
There is also White Flint Mall. It has a Lord and Taylor,
Borders Books, movie theaters, and lots of jewelry stores. There are
more activities throughout the year than many malls. These include a
summer camp fair, a senior resources fair, and holiday events in
December. Not far away is Montgomery Mall, off of Route 270.
For the pet lover,
Rockville has the Best Friends Montrose Pet Hotel. There are many
specialty stores to explore. If you love tea, don't miss Ten Ren Tea
in Wintergreen Plaza. For the music (and electronics) lover, Tweeter
has good quality audio and video equipment.

If you are trying to follow as healthy a diet as possible, there's a
little help. Two great vegetarian restaurants are on the Pike.
The Vegetable Garden has been very highly rated nationally. Up the
street is Yuan Fu, which gives you a LOT of healthy vegetarian food
for your money.
There is also a Whole Foods Market and My Organic Market in town.
these both have an excellent selection of health foods, supplements,
and body care supplies.
If you love classical music, Strathmore is one of the great
places in the area. It's a beautiful place on a large, well landscaped
lot. It's conveniently served by the Metro line.

For getaways, you have fairly easy access to points north on Route
270. To travel east or west, you normally would use the Capital
Beltway (495). It can move well or be very congested, depending on
it's mood. To get to Northern Virginia, Metro rail is often a better
choice, but you'll have to go into DC and transfer to another train.
If you're a golf
lover, there's the Woodmont Country Club, Redgate Municipal Golf
Course, Lakewood Country, Club, Manor Country Club and Norbeck Country
club.
What else is nearby:
The National Institutes of Health is down Rockville Pike in Bethesda,
MD.
Montgomery Community College is north on Route 355.
There are tons of car dealers on the Pike for the auto buff.
