VW Shows Hybrid Prototype

Update: Feb., 2007  -  VW has apparently scrapped any plans to bring out a hybrid Golf or Jetta. The first VW hybrid is likely to be a Touareg.


VW has indicated that it plans to develop hybrid vehicles. The company recently showed a diesel-electric hybrid prototype, the Golf ECO.Power. It has a 114-hp 1.4-liter 3-cylinder diesel combined with 20-hp electric motor.

The company says this configuration could deliver up to 10 to 15 percent better fuel economy than a hybrid design using a  gasoline engine.
